I did it in 8, but I reset once.
Chess and logic? Too easy. Thanks for taking a break on that riddle junk!

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
I've completed this one before..
Chess was my first love in games.
still play whenever I can find someone to play against. sometimes play online, but its hard to find games where you don't walk away wondering if the person was using an engine..
across a board there is no doubt.
by the way.. the 8 queens chess problem has his board oriented from east to west instead of north south.. effectively placing you as an observer, not a player. (White square goes in the bottom right)

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
In high school, I was vice-president of our Chess Club and we actually did this puzzle one day. And yes, I was that geeky. :p
There's actually multiple correct answers to this puzzle. It's an interesting challenge after you do it once to see how many unique solutions you can come up with. Just make sure your new answer isn't the result of simply rotating or flipping the board over with an old solution.

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
OK you all seemed to like the chess one. Now for one that will annoy you (in a good way), it is sort of a mix between an optical illusion and a puzzle.

I know how it works but it still bugs me.

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
I have a few "puzzle" games that could be of SOME interest. The trilogy is called "Karoshi", which is Japanese for "death by overwork". The actual object of it is to kill your blue-suited office worker through each level. Some levels are harder than others, of course.
It actually makes for a good mental workout, since you need to be creative in how you kill yourself. Especially if it's your first time playing them. You can Google the word "karoshi" and find both versions of the original at YoYo Games. There is a Flash animated version here at this link: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/462774
Tell me what you think of them. (If deemed inappropriate, this post can be deleted by the mods.)

Impossible Triangle Solutions (click spoiler to see)
This one was rather fun for me, since math used to be one of my favorite subjects. No really, I'm serious.

This one was rather fun for me, since math used to be one of my favorite subjects. No really, I'm serious.
- Spoiler:
Short Version: The angles of the red and green triangle are different since their perpendicular sides aren't proportional (5/2 != 8/3), which means their hypotenuses aren't parallel and the "combined" figure on the top is not a triangle. It's a quadrilateral. When you swap the positions of the red and green triangles, the angle formed by their two hypotenuses changes from bulging in (on the top) to bulging out (on the bottom), creating the space for the square.
Area Solution: A simple way to prove the combined pieces don't make a triangle is just to calculate the area the pieces take up and the area a right triangle with perpendicular sides of length 5 and 13 should be.
Area of a Right Triangle is (Length of one Perpendicular Side * Length of the Other Perpendicular side) / 2.
Red Triangle: (8*3)/2 = 12
Green Triangle: (5*2)/2 = 5
Yellow Piece: 7 (counting squares for these...)
Green Piece: 8
Total Area of Pieces: 32
Area of a 13 x 5 right triangle: (13*5)/2 = 32.5
The 0.5 area difference between the combined pieces and a real triangle is what makes the illusion work.
Visual Solution:
Note that I made this image just to prove the point for those that can see it better that way. I made sure to solve the problem before using any straight edges or photo programs, since that's kinda like cheating in my opinion.
The pink line is perfectly straight. Notice how the black border it covers bulges inward a bit on the top, and bulges outward slightly on the bottom. The bulge is very hard to notice without a reference line, but that small difference is what makes the extra space.
You could technically use trig to calculate the area of a theoretical scalene triangle formed by the hypotenuses of the green and red triangles with the third side as an imaginary hypotenuse of the "combined" triangle (the pink line) and prove that it had area of 0.5, but that'd just be unnecessary work at this point. Also, I'd have to double-check to make sure I was remembering my formulas right, since it's been years since I had trig. :p

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
I will give the solutions to the riddle and the puzzle since no one seems to be getting them
Puzzle-
Riddle-
Puzzle-
- Spoiler:
- This is one I came up with a while ago. What you do is, you order the #'s by the amount of letters it takes to spell them, so ONE has 3 letters, FOUR has 4 letters, SEVEN has 5 letters, ELEVEN has 6 letters. So the next # needs 7 letters. any # that has 7 letters is the correct answer(example- SEVENTY).
Riddle-
- Spoiler:
- Now this is harder and I am not surprised if no one got it at First you have to understand how bases work. Binary is base 2 and we normally use base 10 in other words base 10 is where the first place value is the ones, then the next place value is the tens(10 ones) The next is the hundred's(10 tens) etc. When using binary (Base 2) you have the first place value being the ones. then the next being the 2's(2 ones) the next place value being 4's (2 twos)etc. This riddle is works by counting the letters in the alphabet(26 letters in base ten)by base 5. The answer is if you are counting in base 5.You have to be quite a math/computer nut(or geek) to solve it although making it wasn't to hard.

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
A giant inverted steel pyramid is perfectly balanced on its point. Any movement of the pyramid will cause it to topple over. Underneath the pyramid is a $100 bill. How do you remove the bill without disturbing the pyramid?

Pick up the $100 bill. Since the pyramid is inverted and the wide part at the top, the bill can be "under" the pyramid without necessarily being directly underneath the point of it. Kinda like resting in the shade.
Unless of course you meant that the bill was under the point of the pyramid. Then my answer is all off. :p

Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
Personally, I'd just knock that thing over and pick up the money...but that's just me.
Re: Puzzle and Riddle Thread!!
@scions riddle- my answer is the same as rehwyn's.

I have more riddles I would like to share .
Riddle #1-
A man shot his wife, drowned her, and hung her. After this they both went out to dinner, watched a movie, and were both very happy. How can this be?
Riddle #2-
What is bigger than an elephant but weighs nothing?
Riddle #3-
You come to a fork in a road. You look one way you see an overgrown dark gloomy forest. You look the other way there is a storm brewing. What should you do to make the most profit?

Pyramid one is this: Rip/tear/burn away the bill. Nothing is said that you need to keep it, so, just get rid of it.

That's easy the under side of the pyramid is now on top, so just pick it up off the top
