A New Pair of Mittens
Last night, playing some Guildwars, doing my thing. You know how I do. Then nature called, I left the room.
I heard a crash. I heard two cats run out of the den. I laughed, stupid cats.
Somehow the cats managed to chase each other up onto my computer desk and through my mug full of pens. Which knocked over my giant cup. Full of water. Crap. Right off the side of the desk. Crap. Right down into the top exhaust of my computer! Crap! My computer!
Okay. Calm down. Computer is still on, but the monitor isn't. So. Turn off computer. Take it apart. Water everywhere. I am going to turn those cats into a new pair of mittens, I swear. It's like they managed to pour a pint of water straight through my CPU heatsink in order to pool on my video card.
I dried everything off, used a can of compressed air to get the little nooks and crannies, turned a box fan to the open side, and went to dinner.
Hours of drying later, the blasted thing still doesn't turn on.
I will be out of game for a while.

Glad I got rid of my cats. Now I just have to worry about an 80lb dog.

Aw man!! I am so sorry, what a huge bummer.
Well, we all know that cats live in an alternate reality.
I think they are aliens.
But then, I am a dog person, so what do I know...

Re: A New Pair of Mittens
We used to have two cats and after hating them for years I slowly grew to kind of like the little bastards. Until they both went completely insane. Waking up at three in the morning with a cat wrapped around your arm ripping out hunks of flesh isn't the greatest experience. After beating my arm against the wall (with the cat still attached) for nearly a minute I decided I didn't like cats anymore.
Up until now I was of the belief that cats were good for absolutely nothing but I agree that they would probably make for a delightful pair of mittens.

Re: A New Pair of Mittens
I mean, I love the little punks, but holy crap why after three years did they decide to attack my blue cup? No idea.
We used to let them sleep in/on the bed with us, but Roy (the guy) decided that my wife's hair was his playtoy and would randomly stalk then pounce her head.
They are good for naptime, though, especially wintertime, when they curl up and just throw off heat.
If only there was a dog/cat mix that was furry, warm, poops in a litter box, doesn't get more than 10 pounds, but knows it's name and obeys commands. Not a lapdog, mind you, something more like a fully trainable cat.
I actually tried to teach them to poop in the toilet, and came really close, except they couldn't learn to keep thier feet out of the toilet, so they kept walking around the house with two back paws wet with toilet water.
Boo.
Dumb cats.
Looks like my motherboard is fried, video card is down, and I don't know about CPU or RAM. Power supply survived. Parts from newegg should get here next week.
Does anyone use onboard video card to play Guildwars? Or do I need a new video card, as well. Maybe I can save a couple bucks and just get something built in.

Re: A New Pair of Mittens
I play with an onboard video card. Mind you, I do sometimes crash, and there are at least 3 zones that I know of that I can't enter. Two are in EotN, and the other one is the first zone in Vabbi (NF). As long as the onboard is a 64mb, you really shouldn't have much trouble playing until you decide to upgrade.

Re: A New Pair of Mittens
New graphics card came today: Radeon HD 4650, fanless cooling of course.
Motherboard lands Thursday, so if I am on Thursday night things are good.
If not, then I'll need to figure out if my RAM or CPU are busted, too.
So. Thursday night, it's on! (hopefully)

That sucks what happened... I hope you get your new setup running easily. I almost wish something like that would happen to my computer.

Re: A New Pair of Mittens
I always wish someone would steal/destroy my car, or my computer, or something.
Then it happens and it ends up being such a giant nightmare that I just can't wait to get everything back to the way it was.
Mainly, I just can't stand my wife's teeny laptop keyboard. This thing makes my fingers hurt.
